Choosing Costumes for Infants
While the majority of trick-or-treaters are between the ages of five and 12, there are plenty of parents out there doing trick-or-treat duty with infants in tow. And, there’s no reason to exclude your baby from the fun of dressing up for Halloween. A first Halloween costume can be a keepsake that is handed down for generations, and if chosen carefully you can use it for more than one baby!
Among things to consider when selecting infant Halloween costumes are: the climate the costume will be worn in, the age (and likely size) of the baby at the time the costume will be used and the amount of time the baby will be wearing the costume. You need to consider the climate to ensure you choose baby Halloween costumes that are an appropriate weight to avoid your baby over heating or catching a chill. The age and size of the infant is important because you want to buy a costume that suits your baby’s size as well as their developmental stage – you wouldn’t put a baby that can crawl in a suit that restricts his movement, for example.
Finally, consider the amount of time the infant costume will be worn for. Halloween costumes for infants, like those made for larger children and adults, can be cumbersome to move around in – if you’re just putting the costume on your baby for a photo op, that’s one thing – but if you’re going to walk around the neighborhood with your baby in his suit for hours, you’ll want to consider how easy it is to change the baby, etc. before selecting your infant’s costume.
