Definitely Do A Background Check on the Housecleaning Help!

Oh you so need to do a background check on people who are in your house without you!  Of course you know to always ask for references, but what if those references are faked?  I don’t even trust phone calls.  They can so be one of the person’s friends or relatives!  So verifying basic employment background is the first step.  But I totally advocate for finding someone who can provide complete background information solutions.

Even if your neighbor recommends someone to you, don’t trust it!  This happened to my sister, who began to use her neighbors’ cleaning woman.  First, my sister believed she misplaced one or two pieces of jewelry.  Department store stuff-we’ve all done that.  Then when certain events would come around, she’d go digging for the nicer things and couldn’t find them, either.  So accusations and firings occurred.  It wasn’t until two years later, (she’d skipped Christmas one year because of a divorce,) she went digging for some heirloom Christmas ornaments and some Hummel statuettes.  Those were missing, too!

Apparently, the housecleaning help was very wily, and they only stole things that were somewhat stowed away.  They knew that some of these things would not be noticed as missing for months, and most definitely would not all be noticed as missing at once.  Do those professional companies like Merry Maids do background checks on their employees?

So true! You have to be careful as a consumer and as a business owner. I’ve had issues on both sides of this equation with home renovation contractors taking stuff out of my house and contract employees “borrowing” items from on-site locations. It gets frustrating, to be sure.
