Wild Requirements for a Serious Certification

I was at the gym today working out with my best friend who is in IT. As always, when not pushing each other harder we were chit chatting about all kinds of things. Since he has been in the information technology field forever, he shared with me today that he is going for a huge security certification.

I guess it is called the CISSP certification, but I can’t remember exactly what it stood for although I’m pretty sure security was one of the letters in there. When he started rattling off all the hoops he had to jump through I was kind of surprised. Of course he is going to have to go to information technology security training so he can learn how to pass the CISSP exam. But that’s just the beginning.

He said that after he does that, there is something like a background check where he has to answer questions about things like whether or not he has a criminal record. Another stiff requirement is that he has to have another seasoned IT guy attest to the fact that he has been doing this forever. And after that there is even some kind of code of ethics that they have to swear to. That one I completely understand because as a realtor, I had to swear to one of those too. Anyway, he says it could mean a big raise for him, so he is jumping through the hoops. Smart man; good for him!
