My Rates Should Go Down, Right?

I few months ago when gas prices were really getting stupid, I decided it was time to get a motorcycle. After all, they get great gas mileage, and here in Florida you can pretty well ride them year round (except maybe during those pesky hurricanes). So I went into one of the Harley Davidson dealerships here in Ft. Lauderdale and decided to see what it would take to make it happen.

The salesman explained that the first thing to do was to learn how to ride a motorcycle and to get a special endorsement on my license. They would be happy to help out because they offer a rider’s course right there! It was a short five day course that only cost $350. They even provided a nice lunch on Saturday and Sunday. They also provided cool little Buell motorcycles for us to practice on.

Because I took the course, I was able to get a huge discount on the motorcycle insurance after I bought the bike too. But when I called my Ft. Lauderdale health insurance guy to ask if I could get a discount on my Fl health insurance the agent explained that instead of going down, in Fl health insurance rates go up if you have a motorcycle. Sometimes even the best intentions backfire!
