My Moms Problem
My parents went through a pretty rough patch after all the kids grew up and left home. My mother took it hard. Other than her church activities, much of her life had been devoted to taking care of us kids, so when we left, the house suddenly seemed really empty and she had too much time on her hands. Though she and my father are devoted to each other, they really don’t have too many interests in common, although of course they always attend social functions together. My mother’s always had a weakness for alcohol, and she started drinking more. I didn’t know this at the time.
My father finally asked his lawyer for help. This man, who’s been a close advisor for years, knew of an alcohol treatment center in Florida which was also well-known as a Florida drug treatment center. He said they were discreet and said they had a behavioral health program that emphasized Christian values, knowing how important both of those things were to my parents. So when my father took my mother there for her Florida alcohol treatment, people thought they were just on an out-of-state vacation. Her stay there was just what she needed. Dad says he learned a lot during her treatment too. Things between them really got better after her stay. She’s developed a few other interests since that time. I think she’s a lot more cheerful and active now.
