Dentist Disability Insurance

I imagine that dentist would have to be at a very high risk for disability over other types of medical practitioners.  They are probing around multiple mouths daily and most of the time they have to issue out some type of pain to patients, whether it is a dental filling, root canal, or even an extraction.  Being bitten by a patient is always a possibility and if bitten hard enough, it could force the dentist out of work for a while.

Dentist disability insurance would seem like a wise policy for any new dentist to pick up.  A dentist’s hands are their 90% of their job and without them, they cannot work.  There are many disability insurance companies out there that can give fast fair disability insurance quotes to those needing insurance.

Disability insurance will provide money in your pocket if you ever have to be out of work for an extended period of time due to a disability.  There are policies that can range from short term disability up to lifetime disability.  Also, if you are able to work a different type of job, you can still work while receiving disability from your normal field of work.  While one hopes that they never need to use such a policy, it is always good to have one just in case.

Another feature dentists should look at in a disability policy is the recovery benefit, especially if he/she plans on being self-employed. When you return to work from a total disability, the recovery benefit will pay you a percentage of the benefit based on your percentage of lost income until your loss is less than 20% of pre-disability earnings. Dentists should also look at Overhead Expense disability insurance, which will keep the office open while you are out on a total disability.
