Are Upscale Nursing Home Predjudiced Against the Very Sick?

in home care providersMy mother suffered from PVD, and because of first losing a toe and then one leg, she could no longer stay in her assisted living facility.  We first placed her in a lovely little neighborhood group home, but despite the caregiver training I’m sure they had, and a registered nurse as the owner, the circulation went bad in her other leg, and she could no longer stay there.

After her second amputation, her insurance company placed her into a lovely convalescent home in Brea.  But her mind was affected by the decreased circulation as well; that, plus the medication caused her to hallucinate and to call out and scream a lot.  They seemed irritated with her.  She didn’t fit in with their more upscale patients.  She developed a fever so they sent her to the hospital where it was found that she had a MRSA (antibiotic resistant bacterial infection).  The nice convalescent home where I didn’t feel my mother was neglected and didn’t smell would not take her back.  Instead, she was sent to an absolute dump of a home.

Maybe those folks in Brea shouldn’t be so snooty and spend some time watching an infection control dvd  or something.  First, I believe they were happy to see her go, but more importantly it was on their watch that she got the MRSA in the first place.  She came to them on antibiotics from her surgery, and I can add.  How unforgivably cruel can you be to aim to get rid of the sickest of the elderly and subject them to facilities that are horrible?
