I’ve decided that I want to go all digital with my storage system. I’m just sick of being surrounded by these pieces of paper. They take up too much room. I can never find what I’m actually looking for in this mess. And I occasionally wonder what I would do if these files were damaged by fire or water or some other disaster because I don’t have any backups for them. Digital copies of everything sounds like a great solution to me.

Of course, I don’t actually know anything about technology stuff. I can’t tell data capture systems from network servers; it’s all Greek to me. That’s why I’m planning to hire a document imaging service to assist me in this endeavor. Well, that’s the main reason. The other reason is that I need to be accountable to someone else for getting this all done or I might put it off another year! It’s a big job but I’ll be glad when it’s done.

Kids learn from all different kinds of play. They learn sharing and interaction with others when they’re at the playground. They learn about household activities like baking and cleaning when they’re given play food and toy vacuums. They learn about construction and design from building with wooden toys. And they learn from every type of play because they use their imagination while playing.

As adults, we can take some cues from this. We can choose to learn by playing. The office may get boring sometimes but it doesn’t have to be a place where we stagnate. We can choose to get creative with our work so that we learn more. We can take classes, bring new research methods into our work and get close with others on collaborative projects. And just like kids do, we may discover that we’re having such a good time playing that we forget that we’re learning - or working!

An office can be a terrific place to work. It provides a stable environment with co-workers, collaboration and camaraderie. However, it’s also sometimes necessary to get out of the office for awhile so that you can think clearly on your own. You’ll work better this way.

Some smart ways to get out of the office might be:

• Take a vacation. Most people use this method of escaping from the office. It’s good for when you need downtime from work. However, it’s not necessarily productive so don’t let this be the only recourse you have for getting out of the office.
• Telecommute. You can be productive on your own if you are able to telecommute to your job now and then. This lets you get work done in an environment that could prove to be less distracting than the office is. It’s great for when you need to work on projects that don’t involve other team members.
• Take classes. Sign up for classes that benefit your work. For example, mortgage and real estate professionals may sign up for advanced FHA training or loan officer training. The classes help your job but put you an inspiring new environment at the same time.

Get creative and you’ll find ways to do your work without being stuck in the office all day.

2. Niagara Falls. Go immerse yourself in the presence of these amazing falls. You will realize that the world is huge and filled with wonders. You won’t be so worried about work anymore.
3. Long Beach. This is a forty-kilometer stretch of sandy beach land near Vancouver. Who doesn’t enjoy a beach vacation?
4. Cabot Trail. The name makes this sound like a hiking trail but it’s not. It’s actually the trail for a really gorgeous long scenic drive through some of the most beautiful land in Canada. This involves driving but it’s nothing like your daily commute!
5. Old Quebec City. Go check out this historic part of Quebec. It will take you back in time and make you think of when things were simpler.

All of these getaways will do the trick which is to get you to stop feeling like you’re stuck at work and to start feeling like you’re really living your life!

It used to be that people took vacations every year.  That was kind of the way things went — you worked all year, and then you got a couple of weeks off.  You either took your family somewhere in the summer, or you took the time off around Christmas.

Now it seems like fewer and fewer people are taking vacations.  The economy has a lot to do with it lately, but I think businesses’ expectations have changed too.  They are now expecting more out of employees than they used to… including more days at work and less vacation time taken.  Plus, how families save has changed, so I suspect a lot of families can no longer afford vacations — even before the downturn in the economy.

It’s kind of too bad, because I think the popular vacation destinations now are a lot cooler than they were 30 years ago, probably because airfare is more affordable.  Now you can dive in Fiji, fish in Canada, or ski in Europe.  Not that you couldn’t do those things back then, but it’s more prevalent these days,  I think.

Of course, you have to think about whether or not your restaurant is right for a hotel. Are you going to be able to serve the food that tourists are interested in? People like to eat local food when they travel so the restaurants in Atlanta GA hotels and the restaurants in San Diego CA hotels are going to serve quite different food from one another. Another consideration is whether or not your restaurant is upscale enough to fit in a hotel. You don’t see too many diners in hotels!

If you do have a great restaurant idea that works for a hotel then you need to approach local hotels and work out a plan. Put a business plan in place so the hotels have something to look at. Be willing to be flexible on some of your terms. Consider this a good way to get a foot in the door of the restaurant industry.
