The Old vs. the New

It has become more common to see devices that can handle multiple applications. A family friend once described working in a factory years ago, and there were dials and meters for everything. Each type of gas needed to measured separately, and separately from its flow rate or density. The same held for any kind of liquid. Now, flow meters can measure multiple types of elements and give specifics on their density and other thing as well. You certainly wouldn’t see ten metering devices in one spot; instead a single ultrasonic open channel flow meter can do the job.

Just as miniaturization has benefited in the use of any kind of electronic system, it shouldn’t be any different for a flow controller. Factories have benefited from these and their ability to communicate information to centralized systems. Some of these can even be monitored and controlled remotely, or even be programmed to automatically react in some situations. The variables can be programmed and if a certain threshold is reached, the process can automatically stop or be changed to some kind of preprogrammed setting. This reduces the chance of damage from overheating or overloads. It also minimizes the chance of workers being injured on the factory floor.
